‘Enchanted Legacies’ Romantasy Series by Kate King is a Must Read
FAIRYTALES REIMAGINED
It’s 30 degrees today in Chicago, May 1, and you know what? I don’t care. Because “A Hunger in Every Heart” by Kate King came out recently and I can finally read it; I’ve been waiting (im)patiently for it since I finished “A Storm in Every Heart” last month.
QUICK SERIES SUMMARY
The ‘Enchanted Legacies’ series by Kate King revisits the fairytales we all know and love. But they’re not copies - she has added depth, dimension, fantasy, and spice to make these self-contained satisfying HEAs. That’s right - each one is a different pairing and they have their own HEAs. Thank the Gods.

See our reviews and then borrow these immediately from whatever book service you use. You should go in order, though. Technically, you could probably read these as standalone, but I don’t recommend that. You’ll get the most out of your reading time if you just follow the order. Don’t be difficult.

Review: A fantastic 'Beauty and the Beast' retelling.
Alix is a generally perky, very intelligent FMC who finds herself in the arms of a mysterious, brooding Daemon and through a portal to another world. She realizes quickly she needs to play the part of her Grandmother who ran out on an engagement to this realm’s Prince Thorne (what an inheritance).
She’s quick, quippy, and so likeable that you’ll root her at every turn. And the tension with Daemon is un-fucking-stoppable. They are so perfectly written together.
Their circle of trusted allies is formed, they rally and reform the land, and truly live happily ever after.
I gave this 4.5 out of 5 stars because I was literally enthralled.

Review: ‘The Little Mermaid’ with a vicious twist.
Glad I kept going. I started this book listening to the audio, but I just wasn't connecting with it. So I took up the Kindle version and immediately enjoyed the story.
I liked Kastian and Odessa in the first book, “A Thorn in Every Heart,” there were so many unanswered questions, intriguing "looks", and missing puzzle pieces until the last 6% when everything wrapped up. It's loosely tied to ‘The Little Mermaid’ and at the end when she wears the makeshift dress fitted with a rope, you can see Disney's Ariel on the beach. That part was a sweet homage.
Kastian and Odessa have so many secrets and they’re both unwilling to rely on anyone, be a burden, or generally…trust. But when they do, the payoff is what you’ve been waiting for.
Also, Connell. He’s a pirate prisoner they “acquire” along their journey and he’s a damn riot. I can’t wait to see what part he plays in the gestures wildly whole thing. Did you watch the series “Once Upon a Time” on ABC back in 2011-2018? I imagine Connell as nearly a copy of Captain Hook. Watch this video - he’s the man in black.
I gave this 4.0 out of 5 stars because the storytelling was a little jarring with the past and present jumps. But reading it instead of listening really helped.
CONFESSION: I haven’t read Book #3 “A Holiday in Every Heart” yet. It’s seasonal and I can’t read a Christmas book outside of December. I’ll read it this year, I promise, and update the blog with my review. It’s a novella and while I suspect it supports the story, it doesn’t move the series forward like the full length books. Probably.
Book #4: A Hunger in Every Heart by Kate King
☆ 4.25

Review: ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ and ‘Rapunzel’ with a boatload of spice.
You only have to wait maybe 20 pages for the spice to start. Do with that information what you will. ;)
Fox and Aurelia don’t interact before this book. At all. And really, you don’t learn much about Aurelia and Fox separately before this, now that I think about it.
Aurelia is sweet, innocent, and loving. Fox is brooding, silent, and calculating. He doesn’t want to like her. He doesn’t want to feel anything. And he definitely doesn’t want to share his secrets. So, of course, they have a way of coming out on their own.
Fox’s story was the most surprising of the series. Aurelia’s is sad and then horrific. You’ll get resolution on it all, but it does feel a bit incomplete. It’s always a bit frustrating to see a character dismiss another character’s expert advice. Fox warns Aurelia frequently about how living in a wolf pack is a sensitive ecosystem that they need to navigate carefully. She doesn’t seem to take him seriously until someone else says it or until she sees it with her own eyes. Fox isn’t a drama queen - why would she assume his information isn’t credible or worth heeding? BLURGH.
Connell and Jett bicker like an old married couple throughout this book and I just love it. I’m desperate to learn more about his I’m-not-an-immortal-pirate-anymore situation.
I gave this 4.25 out of 5 stars because Aurelia and Fox are absolutely perfect for one another and I couldn’t stop reading, but the ending wasn’t as complete as I’d like. Maybe that’s to set up Book #5???
